I read this dark and unusual romance a couple of years ago and enjoyed it immensely, even though there were many parts of the story that could be considered disturbing. So, if you are going to read or listen to it, please be aware of the trigger warnings.
My review today is written after listening to this book's audio version, which was wonderfully performed in duet by Michele Sparks and Aiden Snow.
Having read the eBook previously I knew what to expect from this story and was prepared but hearing it so well performed with Gracin and Tessa brought to such vivid life certainly lifted this deliciously dark and disturbing romance to a much higher level.
The "blurb" for the book gives you a good idea of what to expect but it can't give you any inkling of the depth given to the characters by Nicole. That said personally I would have liked it more if the story had been told from both perspectives as I would have liked to get to know Gracin better.
This is not a traditional love story, it's a story about two totally opposite people, albeit both broken and damaged by childhood trauma who come together in the worst of circumstances but who do ultimately find happiness together.
The story is quick-flowing, intense, and suspenseful with one surprise after another as Tessa comes to terms with her deepening feelings for Gracin and with his help manages to find her inner strength. While Gracin finds that there is someone he can depend on who loves him as he is, something he never thought to find.
